Hobbes and Bacon by Phill-Art Hobbes and Bacon by Phill-Art
Noticing more views and comments on these lately, is this posted somewhere?

Here's my other H&B strips-…

I've always loved Calvin and Hobbes since I was really young. I recently came across a spin off comic on facebook by the guys from… It's based on Calvin and Susie as adults, where they are married and they have a daughter named Bacon (As far as her name I though it was awkward at first, but someone pointed out she is really named "Francis" and "Bacon" is the cute nickname her parents have given her. This would fall in line with the philosophical names of (John) Calvin and (Thomas) Hobbes). Sadly they only made four strips , so I'd like to continue it. It really inspired me and I instantly thought of the potential and different directions it could go, while still being loyal to Bill Watterson's style. What I loved most about Watterson's work was it wasn't confined to the real world, it went into Calvin's imagination, which gave all sorts of different visuals that a lot of newspaper funnies missed out on.

I have over 10 other strip ideas with Hobbes and Bacon that I want to share.

I'm really on the fence about continuing this, I've been doing a lot of reading on Watterson recently. He's very protective of his work and has the attitude that his work should stop with his retirement. It really would be selfish of me to continue it. Gahh, maybe just a few more... > < I love Calvin and Hobbes so much.

It's not so much the fan stuff Watterson hates, but the corporate greed that fuels franchise.

I always, always wanted to see Hobbes have an Epic Fail on his pouncing, just to let Calvin win once...

Old Joke, new twist, I wonder if it's going to be a reverse of the old staple of Hobbes getting Calvin, if so I approve.

She should also learn Shaolin fighting, they have a tiger fighting style.

Have loved C&H from my first read, wondered if I should be terrified when my son discovered our C&H collection, and really happy that Bacon has brought home the insanity of old.

Yeah, it would be rude to continue it.

But this is really good! :D

Please share your ideas.  It has been ages since I've read Hobbes dry humor in tandem with a little rascal.  Reading your strips makes me feel as if Watterson was still doing his comics.

Hobbes just got pawned by his new charge. God this is great, and yeah I have read Pantsareoverrated. Genious, especially with "daddy, Donald Trumph is in my closet!"

And thus she lives this day as the only one to have ever dodged the spring attack of Hobbes the vicious Tiger! Calvin would be so jealous.

I just love Hobbes' face in the last panel. It's just like "Well I'll be damned, she dodged." Young Bacon definitely has a finer reaction time than her pounce-able padre.

I understand your reticence to continue this strip given Watterson's belief that his work stopped when he retired. The fact is, though, that it DID stop. You aren't picking up the reins of the original and doing more Calvin stories, but are instead letting his work stand and starting the adventure of a new character. In all honesty, your work honors his. If someone would do carry on one of my stories (I'm an author), I'd be proud. You're not looking to make a quick buck. You're an artist paying homage to someone who inspired you. There is nothing bad about that. Carry on your good works, I say.

Thank you, that's a good way to look at it. Although a product of fanart of fanart doesn't have a very nice ring to it. H&B can be a good start off point for me, so I can move on to make something of my own.

First off, these are amazing. I think you truly did justice to Mr. Watterson, PANTSAREOVERRATTED, and most importantly to Calvin and Hobbes. As far as continuing, I personally feel that C&H is much larger than one man. As much as I would like to praise Mr. Watterson for creating something so wonderful, to say it is his place to deny this to the fans he has made just feels wrong. More to the point, this isn't C&H rebooted or C&H part 2. This is Hobbes and Bacon, the offspring of C&H. While similar to C&H in many aspects, if you truly make it unique and make it your own, I don't believe anyone has the right to tell you to stop. On that note, I do have one suggestion. Be careful about using the same jokes as C&H. While many of C&H strips had similar stories (can't remember how many are based just on calvin getting pounced), each one was unique. I've seen some H&B by other artist that seemed to take straight from C&H. All that you have done though seen unique and I hope to see many, many more. Thank you.
